Building the next generation of natural beta-carotene production

Our Story

WRS Bioproducts is developing an Australian natural beta-carotene business based on Dunaliella salina. The Company combines the founders’ proven commercial knowledge with the findings of an extensive Australian development program to establish traceable, high-quality natural ingredients for international markets.

Natural origin, transparency and ESG performance are increasingly important in procurement and brand positioning. Beta-carotene is commercially valuable because it works as both a precursor of vitamin A and a versatile colourant and antioxidant. This makes source selection important for both commercial positioning and regulatory considerations.

Why natural source matters

Clean label solutions

Food & Beverage

Natural beta-carotene supports clean-label reformulation in beverages, dairy alternatives, confectionery and functional foods, delivering yellow-to-orange colour with a credible natural-origin story.

Dietary Supplements & Functional Foods

Natural beta-carotene offers algae-derived pro-vitamin A and antioxidant functionality with established use history and documentation suited to multinational quality standards.

Cosmetics & Personal Care

Natural beta-carotene provides an algae-derived pigment and antioxidant for skin care, sun care, hair care, body care and colour cosmetic applications.

Animal Nutrition & Aquaculture

Premium aquaculture and animal nutrition markets are exploring natural pigment alternatives to synthetic carotenoids in high-value production systems. WRS’s Dunaliella salina concentrate is positioned as a natural, minimally processed whole-algae ingredient for these applications.

Our systems

Sustainability & Quality

WRS’s production system is based on extensive hypersaline cultivation using sunlight as the primary energy source and seawater or naturally saline brines as the growth medium. The cultivation system does not depend on arable land or potable water and uses sunlight as its primary energy source.

Compared with sugar-fed fermentation and petrochemical synthesis, algae-based beta-carotene offers a distinctive natural-origin proposition based on sunlight-driven cultivation and saline water use.

Australian provenance and governance

WRS operates under Australian regulatory oversight, supported by export infrastructure and transparent documentation frameworks. The company’s approach emphasises staged development, audit readiness and alignment with multinational supplier expectations.

Quality assurance and documentation

WRS intends to establish the specifications, analytical records, traceability systems and quality documentation required for international customer approval and commercial supply.
